Nursing Philosophy
Nursing to me personally, is far beyond just the physical and mental healing of a person. It extends to the whole person as in mind, body, and spirit. Nurses are people who hold various characteristics that help them be the nurse that patients need. When a nurse cares for a patient, she heals them through her nursing skills, communication techniques, and unique attributes such as compassion, care, patience, and trustworthiness that he or she possesses. By having and incorporating these attributes into a nurse’s clinical setting, a nurse helps patients feel human and live with dignity through their most vulnerable times. A nurse holds many roles such as acting as a patient advocate, being a team member, a support person if the patient does not have anyone or even a friend at the bedside that they can talk to and confide in. A nurse cannot be judgmental because that puts up an automatic barrier between the patient and the nurse. Nurses need to establish safe, therapeutic and trusting relationships with their patients and it takes a great deal of trust and honesty to establish these relationships. Nurses create strong bonds with their patients when taking care of them, which makes this career very unique and special.
